In July 2010 Thaddillac co-founded Totem Star Records with Daniel Pak, singer/songwriter for Seattle reggae rockers Kore Ionz (they will be opening the Thaddillac double album release on Sat Aug 25 at the Hard Rock Cafe). The non-profit youth-run record label, currently in its fifth program at the downtown YMCA, has to date mentored 80+ youth in recording original music in the studio and jumpstarting their career in the music industry, while completing their high school education and gaining valuable life skills to broaden their reach in the post-incarceration employment game.

Totem Star Records has set up mobile digital audio workstations at Rainier Community Center, the Northwest African American Museum, the Metrocenter YMCA, and at YouthSource in Renton. Their programs have been sponsored by the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration, the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative, and countless fans.

In August 2010 Mayor Mike McGinn personally invited the youth to his office at City Hall to discuss the needs of community centers in South Seattle. A few months later Totem Star Records presented its work to his Music Commission. In July 2011 the youth were invited by Tony B to join him on his StreetBeat community affairs program on KUBE 93 FM. The radio interview broadcasted to over 11,000 listeners.

Through music production and mentorship with a strong focus on anti-oppression education, Totem Star Records strives to build a family of young recording artists working on projects that make a transformative impact on their lives. Thaddillac stands on the forefront of progressive social change and dedicates a huge part of his life to positively impacting the lives of marginalized youth, many of whom have direct ties to his family.

Thaddillac will be donating a portion of the proceeds from his double album release right back into Totem Star Records to help keep the doors of the recording studio open for the youth. To learn more, feel free to download the Totem Star Records official One Sheet.

For the last three years, Thaddeus Turner, better known by his stage name Thaddillac, has been jumping on a plane to Boise every two months to spend his weekends at The Tonic Room recording his latest album (and a double album at that!) titled ‘Adayzndalyfalayk / One Man Trash Can Band,’ to be released on Saturday, August 25 at the Hard Rock Cafe here in Seattle.
